ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. — Making the trip downstate, the D'Youville University men's soccer team fell to Molloy University by a score of 3-1 Saturday afternoon.
Early in the first half, Molloy applied pressure, culminating in a goal in the 28th minute, putting the Lions ahead 1-0. The Saints attempted to respond with a shot by
Ethan Robinson, which went wide, and another blocked effort by
William Carroll-Baigrie. Despite several saves by
Matthew Solorio, including a notable stop in the 25th minute, DYU finished the half trailing 1-0.
Despite early challenges in the second half, D'Youville's
Shawn Richardson converted a penalty kick in the 78th minute, narrowing the gap to 2-1. However, Molloy quickly restored their two-goal advantage with a goal in the 86th minute.
Solorio recorded five saves over 90 minutes in goal. Richardson scored one goal on his only shot, which was on target.
Asier Fernandez added one shot, which was also on goal.
Omar Daoudi managed two shots, both of which were off target.
The next challenge for D'Youville will take them on the road to face Assumption University on October 29. The match is set to begin at 4 p.m. in Colonie, N.Y.
