BUFFALO, N.Y. — The D'Youville University men's soccer team fell to RV Gannon University Wednesday afternoon by a score of 3-2.
The match started with the Saints defense under pressure, as
Matthew Solorio made key saves early to deny the Golden Knights' attempts. Despite a goal by Gannon in the 15th minute, DYU responded promptly.
Dylan Danch equalized in the 17th minute with an assist from
Ethan Filbert, leveling the score at 1-1.
As the first half progressed, Gannon regained the lead through a goal in the 35th minute. The Saints aimed to recover, but the half concluded with a 2-1 deficit.
The second period began with DYU immediately applying pressure, as
Konrad Homberg's shot struck the top woodwork just 26 seconds in. D'Youville maintained the offensive momentum with
Jonas Driesch firing a shot just over the top at the 49th minute.
The match saw a pivotal moment in the 81st minute when
Shawn Richardson converted a penalty kick, leveling the score for D'Youville. However, the Golden Knights responded swiftly with a goal in the 82nd minute, reclaiming their lead. Despite late attempts by D'Youville to equalize, the period ended with Gannon holding a 3-2 advantage.
Richardson scored a goal on his only shot and converted one penalty kick for D'Youville. Solorio recorded five saves in goal, facing 15 shots in the match. Danch also scored a goal, finding the net with one of his two shots. Filbert contributed with an assist, setting up a scoring opportunity for his team.
Their next match will take place at Dobson Field in Buffalo, N.Y., where they will host St. Thomas Aquinas College on October 18 at 12 p.m.
