Softball Drops Two on First Day of Florida

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 AUBURNDALE, FL. – The D'Youville University Softball team played their first doubleheader at The Spring Games in Auburndale, Florida falling 10-0 in game one against Northwood University and 14-5 to Lynn University.
 
Game One – D'Youville University 0 vs Northwood University 10
 
The Saints fell behind early after the Northwood Timberwolves put two runs on the board in the bottom of the first. D'Youville was unable to answer in the top of the second and the Timberwolves tacked on five more runs in the bottom of the third to go up 7-0.
 
As gameplay continued, Ava Miller (Elma, N.Y. / St. Mary's) notched the lone hit for the Saints with a singled down the left field line in the top of the fourth, but D'Youville was unable to turn it into a run. Northwood crossed three more runs across the plate in the bottom of the fourth and with the Saints unable to answer in the fifth, Northwood would win game one of the day 10-0 after five innings.
 
Game Two – D'Youville University 5 vs Lynn University 14
The Saints fell behind again in game two against Lynn University falling behind 7-0 halfway through the second. Cassidy Daves (Blanco, TX / Blanco) led off the bottom of the second reaching first on an error by the Lynn shortstop. Mikayla Bush (Elmira Heights, N.Y. / Thomas Edison) came up next with a single to left field, scoring Daves on an error following the hit to put the Saints on the board. Anna Chapman (Buffalo, N.Y. / West Seneca East) finished the inning with a single to left field to score Bush and bring the score to 7-2.
 
Lynn scored one more in the top of the fourth, before adding another two in the top of the fifth. With the Saints needing to score to stay alive, Ally Beardi (Buffalo, N.Y. / St. Mary's) led off the inning by getting on base and stealing second. Junior, Laura Beck (Clifton Park, N.Y. / Shenendehowa) beat out an infield hit to shortstop and Beck stole second during the next at-bat to put runners on second and third for the Saints with no outs. Isabella Mancino (Wynantskill, N.Y. / Averill Park) walked to load the bases and Cassidy Daves popped up deep enough to the second basemen to score Beardi and advance the other runners. Laura Beck came home next on a wild pitch and a single from Hallie Furkas (Rockwood, Mich. / Oscar A. Carlson) scored Mancino to bring the score to 10-5.
 
Lynn had an answer in the top of the sixth crossing four more runs across the plate and with the Saints unable to answer, Lynn would take the second game of the day 14-5.
 
Up Next
The Saints continue their week in Florida in Auburndale tomorrow with another doubleheader. The Saints will take on the University of Indianapolis who is currently ranked eighth in the country in the NFCA DII Poll at 10:00 AM followed by a game against regional opponent Saint Anselm at 12:15 PM.
