Box Score WEST CALDWELL, N.J. – Grad-transfers Paige Cocina and Marissa Malvaso scored four goals apiece in the Saints' 16-8 win over Caldwell Sunday afternoon in New Jersey. Freshman Emily Fischer added three of her own goals, while Danielle Thompson (two), Sydney Gordan (two), and Bethany Wolcott (one) added goals to their stat lines. Freshman Brinn Stworzydlak was credited with five saves on 13 shots.
First Quarter Notables
- The Saints took an early 2-0 lead off of two unassisted Malvaso goals at 12:42 and 10:49.
- Caldwell answered back with a goal at 10:05, to cut into the Saints' lead 2-1.
- Freshman Emily Fischer added to the Saints' lead in just before the seven-minute mark after Bethany Wolcott caused a Caldwell turnover on a clear.
- Madison Ellis from Caldwell answered back with a goal in the sixth minute of action, before Malvaso added another goal off a pass from Sydney Gordon.
Second Quarter Notables
- The Saints wasted no time in the second quarter of action as Bethany Wolcott caused a Caldwell turnover, picking up the ground ball and creating a scoring opportunity for Cocina at 11:48.
- Three-straight fouls from the Saints moments later looked like the Chiefs would be able to mount a comeback, but Amanda Waliszewski was able to cause a turnover that led to another Cocina goal at 9:50.
- The Chiefs answered back with four quick goals to cut the Saints' lead to 8-5 with three and a half minutes left in the half.
- Two quick goals from Malvaso (0:48) and Gordon (0:21) gave the Saints some cushion going into the intermission.
Third Quarter Notables
- Gordan and Malvaso connected once again for another D'Youville goal as Gordan scored at 13:29 coming out of the break.
- The Saints fired off five shots in the next three minutes, but Caldwell goalie, Mia Monacelli was able to fend off their attempts until 7:30 when Danielle Thompson snuck one past to extend the lead to 12-6.
- At 2:55, a Caldwell violation allowed the Saints to play a man-up and Fischer was able to capitalize on the manpower, scoring at 1:43.
Fourth Quarter Notables
- Trailing 13-6 at the beginning of the final quarter of action, the Caldwell Chiefs fought hard to make the comeback.
- Hannah Glaser from Caldwell was able to convert the free-position shot at 14:34 to cut the lead.
- The Chiefs and Saints went back-and-forth for the next seven minutes, before Emily Lasko from Caldwell was able to sneak one past Brinn Stworzydlak to cut the Saints' lead to five.
- The Saints added on three final goals, as Cocina (two) and Thompson were able to cushion the Saints lead and secure the 16-8 win over Caldwell.
