Men's Basketball Drops Gary Miller Classic Opener to Gannon

Box Score

ERIE Pa. - The D'Youville men's basketball team returned to action Friday night, taking part in the Gary Miller Classic, hosted by Gannon University. The Saints were unable to solve Gannon, losing 99-63, in a loss that drops the Saints to 1-4 on the season.

Junior forward Garrian Wade got the Saints on the board first for D'Youville with a fast-break layup to cut an early Golden Knight advantage in half at 4-2. The hosts went back to work, starting the game with a 15-5 lead in the game's first six minutes.

Freshman guard Nelson St. Louis responded with a 7-0 run of his own that began with a three-pointer from the left corner after the Saints grabbed two offensive rebounds. The three was followed by a pair of layups from the Port St. Lucie, Fla. native to cut the Gannon lead to 17-12 at the under 12-minute media timeout.

Gannon ballooned their advantage to 20 points at 48-28 at the halftime buzzer as they finished the half shooting 48 percent from the field, D'Youville shot 31 percent. The Saints struggled from beyond the three-point arc in the opening twenty minutes, shooting a 1-for-7 clip.

Junior forward Trey Boling got the Saints on the board in the second half. Sophomore forward Noah Denz found Boling near the basket, who used the glass for his lay-in, cutting the Golden Knight lead back to 20 points at 50-30.

D'Youville was not able to get back to within 20 points of Gannon for the rest of the game as every home player that stepped on the floor tallied at least two points.
