GREENSBURG, Pa. — The D'Youville women's tennis team delivered a strong all-around performance on Sunday afternoon, earning a decisive 5-2 victory over California (PA) at the Greensburg Racquet Club.
D'Youville captured momentum early on by claiming two of three doubles matches to take the opening point. At No. 1 doubles, the pairing of Munisa Ashurbekova and Nele Herbst secured a 6-3 victory over Leandra Guldimann and Sofia Rodriguez. Erika Ismailova and Miranda Bosch followed with a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles to clinch the point for the Saints. The Vulcans managed to take the No. 3 doubles match in a tight 7-5 decision.
The Saints carried the momentum into singles play, winning four of six matches to seal the team victory. Herbst was dominant at No. 2 singles, cruising to a 6-3, 6-0 win. Ismailova added a convincing 6-4, 6-1 triumph at No. 3, while Mina Randjelovic controlled her No. 4 matchup with a 6-0, 6-1 performance. Bosch battled through a competitive first set at No. 5 before pulling away for a 7-6 (4), 6-1 win.
The victory moves D'Youville to 5-2 on the year as they look to play their best tennis down the stretch of the championship season.
Looking ahead for the Saints, they'll continue their road stretch, traveling to take on Saint Leo University in Saint Leo, Fla. on Sunday, March 8th.
