Darvalics Scores Her First Career Goal in 9-1 Loss to Frostburg State

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Frostburg State University overwhelmed D'Youville University in a decisive 9-1 victory at Dobson Field on Sunday. D'Youville's lone goal came in the third quarter, but the Bobcats dominated with 37 shots, converting nine of them. Despite D'Youville goalkeeper Sarah Reifsnyder's 18 saves, the team struggled to contain FSU's offense, which scored in every quarter.
D'Youville's defense faced significant pressure from Frostburg State in the first quarter, with Sarah Reifsnyder (Pylesville, Md. / North Harford)  making multiple key saves to keep the team in contention. Chloe Burkhard (Vestal, N.Y. / Vestal) contributed with a defensive save, but the Bobcats managed to capitalize on their opportunities. Caroline Earnshaw opened the scoring for Frostburg State at 11:26, assisted by Aubree Dorsey. Avery Hayden extended the visitor's lead with a goal assisted by Dorsey at 14:41. The first quarter concluded with D'Youville trailing 2-0, as FSU maintained their momentum going into the next quarter.
The second quarter saw Frostburg State extend their lead over D'Youville with a series of successful offensive plays. Early in the quarter, Earnshaw scored a goal at 16:08, assisted by Hannah Haberkorn, increasing the visitor's score to 3-0. D'Youville's defense, led by goalie Reifsnyder, made several key saves, including a notable defensive save by Burkhard at 26:58. Despite a strong defensive effort, D'Youville was unable to prevent further goals from Frostburg State, who added two more to their tally with goals from Mikyla Rineer at 20:49 and Makenna Buffington at 23:01. The quarter concluded with Frostburg State holding a 5-0 advantage.
The third quarter commenced with D'Youville's defensive efforts front and center as Reifsnyder made multiple key saves against Frostburg State's attempts, including efforts from Paige Leitzel and Sydney Spivey. Despite persistent defensive work, FSU managed to break through with a goal by Leitzel at 40:09, assisted by Piper Taylor, extending their lead to 6-0. D'Youville responded promptly with Ella Darvalics (Franklin, N.J. / Wallkill Valley Regional) scoring her first goal of the season at 40:37, providing a boost to the home side. Erica Prible (Holland, N.Y. / Holland) followed up with a shot on goal, though it was saved by the Bobcats' Leah Maliszewski. The quarter concluded with a maintained score of 6-1 in favor of FSU, as D'Youville closed the quarter showing resilience and determination.
The fourth quarter began with D'Youville's defense holding firm against Frostburg State's attacking pressure. Sydney Bolesta made a critical defensive save early, while Reifsnyder recorded multiple saves to keep Frostburg State at bay. Despite these efforts, FSU broke through with goals at 52:33 and 57:38, extending their lead. FSU maintained offensive momentum, capitalizing on their opportunities to add another goal before the quarter concluded. D'Youville's defense continued to face waves of pressure, with Reifsnyder making several key saves. The quarter closed with FSU leading 9-1.
Darvalics scored the team's lone goal of the match, registering one shot on goal. Reifsnyder, in goal, made 18 saves, including six in the final quarter. Burkhard contributed defensively with three defensive saves, helping to limit additional scoring opportunities. Sydney Bolesta (Dallas, Pa. / Dallas) also added a defensive save during the game.
