ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The D'Youville University women's basketball team punched their ticket to the ECC Tournament with a 63-49 victory over Roberts Wesleyan University on Wednesday.
 
Senior Sofie Fuglsang (Oberanven, Luxembourg) led the Saints offense with 21 points, knocking down four three-pointers. She made an impact on defense as well, recording four rebounds, a block, and a steal. Senior Anna Jankovic (Averill Park, N.Y.) also posted a strong performance, scoring 17 points, grabbing eight rebounds, dishing out four assists, and recording five steals and two blocks.
 
DYU got off to a hot start, jumping out to an 8-2 lead after Jankovic and Fuglsang each knocked down a three-pointer. A mid-range jumper from Fuglsang and a layup from redshirt sophomore Megan Fedor (Elmira, N.Y.) extended the lead to 14-5 with 2:46 remaining in the first quarter. Freshman Samantha Ruhlman (Warren, Pa.) buried a three-pointer in the closing seconds to increase the lead to 17-5. Points were hard to come by for the Saints in the second quarter, however, as Roberts Wesleyan outscored them 18-2 in the quarter to take a 23-19 lead going into halftime.
 
DYU responded well to start the second half, as Fuglsang drilled a three-pointer and Jankovic and junior Morgan Giancaterino (Orchard Park, N.Y.) put in layups to take a 26-23 lead. Junior Isabella Kostyal-Larrier (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) got to the basket for a layup and Fuglsang cashed in from beyond the arc again to extend the lead to six. Fedor converted a pair of free throws and put in a layup to make it 39-30 with 1:24 left to go in the quarter. Fuglsang sank a mid-range jumper to end the quarter with DYU leading by six.
 
The Saints opened the fourth quarter on a 7-2 run fueled by a pair of layups from Jankovic and a layup from Fuglsang to extend their lead to eleven. Freshman Aliviya Vallone Russell (Buffalo, N.Y.) drilled a three-pointer and Kostyal-Larrier made a layup to make it a 12-point game at the 5:39 mark. The Redhawks cut the lead to six with 2:29 left to go, but Vallone Russell knocked down back-to-back three-pointers to bring the lead back up to twelve with 1:30 remaining. The Saints knocked down their free throws and went on to secure the 63-49 win.
 
D'Youville finish the regular season 10-15 (8-8 ECC) and enter the ECC Tournament on a five-game winning streak. Their first round game will be next Wednesday and it is still to be determined who and where they will play.
