Saints Earn First ECC Victory 89-79 Over Lions

BUFFALO, N.Y. — D'Youville defeated Molloy, 89-79, at Saints Center Gym. D'Youville connected on 14 three-pointers and converted 15 of 19 free throws to secure the win. Despite being outrebounded 46-35, D'Youville leveraged a balanced scoring attack, with seven lead changes throughout the contest. Molloy was limited to six three-pointers and committed 17 personal fouls.
The Saints opened the game with a strong performance, establishing early momentum through Alyssa Neumann (Silverdale, Wash. / Central Kitsap), who scored five points in the first three minutes, including a 3-pointer assisted by Megan Fedor (Elmira, N.Y. / Elmira) at 8:47. The team maintained a slight edge, benefiting from a strategic play by Aliviya Vallone Russell (Buffalo, N.Y. / Cardinal O'Hara), who secured a steal and converted it into a 3-pointer at 4:24, assisted by Morgan Giancaterino (Orchard Park, N.Y. / Sacred Heart Academy). In the closing moments, Xanthippi Karatasiou (Katerini, Greece / Kontariotissa) extended the lead with a 3-pointer at 0:47. D'Youville concluded the first quarter leading the Lions 20–18.
D'Youville's second quarter was highlighted by a series of pivotal outside shots, including a key 3-pointer by Xanthippi Karatasiou off an assist from Aliviya Vallone Russell at 8:19, pushing their lead to five. Ava Pearson (Colonie, N.Y. / Colonie) also contributed from beyond the arc, maintaining the home team's momentum with her own 3-pointer at 7:46. Despite a strong inside game from the Lions, which included ten points in the paint, D'Youville kept the contest close. The quarter concluded with a tight score of 36-36, setting up an intense second half.
D'Youville seized control early in the third quarter with a key 7–0 run, highlighted by Morgan Giancaterino's three-pointer at 8:22, extending their lead over the Lions. Neumann contributed significantly with a layup and a subsequent three-pointer, pushing the advantage to 48–39 at 6:24. Despite the Lions' attempts to close the gap, D'Youville maintained their edge through consistent defensive stops and timely scoring, finishing the quarter ahead 62–57. The game concluded with D'Youville securing the win, 62–57.
D'Youville secured the victory in the final quarter with a decisive offensive surge. Giancaterino played a pivotal role, initiating with a steal and layup, followed by an assist to Molly O'Toole (Rochester, N.Y. / Aquinas Institute) for a 3-pointer at 8:20, extending their advantage. Molloy fought to stay in the game but D'Youville maintained control with key free throws from O'Toole and strong defensive rebounding. The game concluded with D'Youville defeating the Lions 89-79, wrapping up the contest with a 27-22 quarter advantage.
O'Toole scored 29 points, converting six of nine shots from beyond the arc, and added five rebounds. Neumann recorded 19 points on perfect shooting from the field and collected nine rebounds while posting two blocks. Giancaterino tallied 11 points and led the team with eight assists and three steals. Vallone Russell added 11 points and contributed five rebounds and four assists.
