BUFFALO, N.Y. – It was a rocking night at the Saints Center Friday evening as the D'Youville University men's basketball team dominated the University of the District of Columbia by a score of 84-66.
The Saints (4-14, 2-7 ECC) had six players in double figures on the evening, led by
Justin Moore (Oxford, Ala./Oxford) with 16 points and 12 rebounds while
TI Scruggs (Huntsville, Ala./Hazel Green) added 15 points.
Elisha Warren (Woodhaven, Mich./Woodhaven) continues his impressive second half of the season, scoring 11 points while
Jaylin Simmons (Queens, N.Y./Benjamin Cardozo),
Dawson Matsell (Hamilton, Ontario/Orangeville Prep), and
Kevin Thompson (Buffalo, N.Y./Bishop Timon-St. Jude) each scored 10 points.
Up six halfway through the first half, DYU held a four-point lead before going on a 10-run to open things up. D'Youville had contributions from five players in the run. The Saints continued their strong run, and lead by as many as 19 thanks in part to a pair of three-pointers from Scruggs and Thompson to make it 47-28 with 1:18 left before halftime. D'Youville took a commanding 49-32 going into the break.
DYU continued the dominance to start the second half, scoring seven points to start. Simmons started the scoring with a layup, followed by a three-pointer from Warren, and capped off by a dunk from Scruggs to make it 56-32. The Saints saw their biggest lead come at the 8:33 mark of the second half with a Simmons knocking down a jumper to make to 71-44.
The Saints shot the lights out of the basketball, going 33-for-65 (50.8 percent) from the field while the Firebirds went 26-for-67 (38.8 percent) from the floor. DYU held the edge on the glass, grabbing 39 rebounds to UDC's 36.
DYU will be back in action this Sunday, February 2nd, as they host the College of Staten Island at 3 p.m.
