FLUSHING, N.Y. – Starting out the 2025 portion of the conference schedule, the D'Youville University men's basketball had a strong second half but fell short to Queens College by the score of 75-70 Friday evening.
The Saints (2-12, 0-5 ECC) had four players score double digits with
Trayton Trice (Romeoville, Ill./Romeoville) leading the way with 17 points.
Justin Moore (Oxford, Ala./Oxford) recorded his first collegiate double-double, scoring 13 points while grabbing a career-high 15 rebounds.
Jaylin Simmons (Queens, N.Y./Benjamin Cardozo) and
Elisha Warren (Woodhaven, Mich./Woodhaven) scored 14 and 11 points, respectively.
Trailing 6-0 early in the contest, D'Youville battled back, scoring seven-straight points to grab their first lead of the game. Simmons got the scoring going, scoring a layup followed by a slam by Moore. The 7-0 run was capped off with a basket from Warren. The teams slugged it out of the next six minutes with neither gaining much of an advantage. The Knights gained a two-possession lead with 10-minutes left in the half. DYU would cut the deficit to two-points on several occasions but trailed by 10 going into the break.
Queens continued to have a two-possession lead for the duration of the second half but buckets from Trice and Moore helped the Saints crawl back into the game, trailing 53-51 with nine minutes left in regulation. After a quick spurt from DYU, the Knights were able to create separation down the stretch, even after an and-one conversion from Warren which made it a three-point game with 21 seconds remaining.
DYU went 28-for-68 (41.2 percent) from the floor while Queens went 22-for-58 (37.9 percent) from the field. The Saints had the slight edge on the boards, grabbing 43 rebounds to Queens' 40.
D'Youville will continue their three-game road trip on Sunday, as they face Molloy University at 2:30 p.m.
