Glinski and Simpson Go Yard; Saints Sweep Doubleheader Against Gannon

CARY, NC – The D'Youville University baseball team won both games of their doubleheader against Gannon University on Saturday.

D'Youville 5, Gannon 2
LHP Chris Auclair (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) got the ball in game one for the Saints and struck out two Gannon batters in the top of the first. In the bottom half, after SS Billy Morris (Lancaster, N.Y.) doubled, 1B Jon Simpson (Grand Island, N.Y.) got DYU on the board with a double of his own.

In the bottom of the third, after Morris singled and Simpson walked, RF Jeremy Glinski (Sloan, N.Y.) continued his torrid start to the season by blasting a three-run homer over the left field fence to make it 4-0 Saints.

Auclair continued to mow through the Gannon lineup in the top of the fourth, striking out two batters to bring his total on the day to seven. He exited after five innings of work, allowing one run on seven hits and punching out eight.

In the bottom of the fifth, Simpson tacked on an insurance run for the Saints with his second RBI double of the day, making it 5-1 D'Youville.

In the top of the sixth, Gannon cut the lead to 5-2 and loaded the bases with one out, but RHP Samuel Worthen (Guelph, Ontario) was able to come in and get out of the jam with two quick outs. Worthen then made quick work of the Golden Knights in the seventh to earn his second save of the year and secure the win for the Saints.

D'Youville 5, Gannon 4
The Saints drew first blood again in game two when Morris drove in DH Alex Dzimian (Lakeview, N.Y.) with an RBI single in the top of the third inning.

RHP Bryce Hediger (Chaffee, N.Y.) toed the rubber for DYU and dominated Gannon through the first four frames, striking out five Golden Knights and allowing just two hits.

In the top of the fifth, Morris got aboard with a single to bring up Simpson, who blasted his fifth home run of the season over the left field wall, making it 3-0 Saints.

Gannon would cut DYU's lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth and scored two more in the sixth to take a 4-3 lead into the seventh inning.

Down to their last two outs, Dzimian and LF Ethan Hammond (Oakville, Ontario) drew walks to bring Morris to the plate with the tying run in scoring position. Morris ripped a double over the center fielder's head for his fifth hit of the day and put the Saints back ahead 5-4.

RHP Blaise Kolbert (Lancaster, N.Y.) sent Gannon down in order, including two strikeouts, in the bottom half to clinch the win for D'Youville.

The Saints will be back in action on Sunday, when they take on Concord University at 9:30 a.m. at the USA Baseball Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina.
