Four Different Saints Score in Win Over Staten Island

STATEN ISLAND, NY – The D'Youville University men's soccer team erupted for four goals on their way to a 4-2 conference win over the College of Staten Island on Saturday.

Four different Saints scored in the win. Junior Asier Fernandez (Betera, Spain) scored his first goal of the season, and sophomore Ethan Robinson (Toronto, Ontario), freshman Dylan Danch (Erie, Pa.), and freshman Omar Daoudi (South Burlington, Vt.) each added a goal. Freshman goalkeeper Matthew Solorio (Kansas City, Mo.) recorded five saves on seven shots faced.

DYU's first shot on goal came in the 13th minute off the foot of freshman Frederick Balmforth (Oslo, Norway), but it was saved.

In the 22nd minute, the Saints drew first blood as Fernandez found the back of the net with the assist coming from freshman Shawn Richardson (Thailand, Sweden).

The Dolphins responded in the 32nd minute, sneaking one past Solorio to level the score at 1-1. The score remained tied as the game went to halftime.

In the 53rd minute, DYU took the lead back as senior Charlie Stewart (Aberdeen, Scotland) found Robinson for the goal to make it 2-1.

Staten Island responded just eight minutes later with a goal and the game was knotted up again at 2-2.

The Saints would not be deterred, however, as just three minutes later Daoudi put one past the Dolphins' goalkeeper on the feed from Danch to take a 3-2 advantage.

DYU added one for good measure in the 80th minute, as Danch scored to make it 4-2 and put the game out of reach. Richardson recorded the assist, his second of the game.

The Saints improve to 1-2-2 in the ECC and 3-7-3 overall and will be back in action at home against Roberts Wesleyan University next Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
