FLUSHING, N.Y. - The D'Youville University Women's Volleyball Team finished up their first weekend of ECC Conference play with a 3-2 loss to Queens College.

First Set
Samantha Killane (Vero Beach, Fla./Lincoln Park Academy)
started off the day with a service ace to score the first point of the day. The Knights came back scoring five in a row to take the lead, but the Saints found their way back. A kill from
Madeline O'Brien (East Amherst, N.Y.) put the Saints back in the lead at 12-11 and held it. It was a hard-fought set by both teams, but DYU stayed in control and after a final kill from O'Brien, took the set 25-21.
Second Set
The Saints took the early 4-1 lead in set two after a Knights error and kills from
Madeline O'Brien,
Giselle Ramirez (Miami, Fla./School for Advanced Studies)
and Isabelle Prentice (Bainbridge, Wash./Bainbridge). The Knights fought back, but the Saints refused to give up the lead. DYU had 15 kills in the set compared to the Knights four and went on to win the second set 25-12.
Third Set
Queens took the early lead in the third set, but the Saints fought to take the 5-3 lead with a kill from O'Brien. The lead went back and forth between the Saints and Knights, but the Saints went up 17-14 after scoring on five consecutive kills. As match play went on, the score evened again at 25 and eventually the Knights would win the third set 31-29 to stay alive.
Fourth Set
Matchplay started even again as both sides fought for the lead. With the game tied at seven, Mitha Hatwar (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) and Madeline O'Brien delivered back-to-back kills to put the Saints on top. The competition continued to stay even until the Knights won the final volleys to win the set 26-24.
Fifth Set
The Knights took the 2-0 lead in the final set of the day, but a kill from Prentice and a Knights error tied the set at four. Again, the Knights jumped back up, but the Saints fought back and took the 7-6 lead. Queens went on from there to score five points in a row and would go on to win the fifth set 15-8 and the match 3-2.
Mitha Hatwar had a career best game with eight kills, 40 assists, and four serving aces. Samantha Killane also had 26 digs; a season high for the Junior.

The D'Youville University Women's Volleyball Team returns home for another ECC matchup next Saturday, September 30th against Roberts Wesleyan at 12:00pm. The match will be an AVCA Girls & Womens Volleyball Officials Appreciation Game.
