ERIE, Pa. – Making the trip down the I-90, the D'Youville University women's wrestling team took on No. T-13 Gannon University where they fell by a score of 25-19.
Gannon got up early in the dual after a double forfeit in the 101-pound weight class and winning the next three weight classes by forfeit to take the 15-0 lead. The Saints got on the board as
Emily Sindoni (Nichols, N.Y.) made her collegiate debut, getting the fall over Zoe Gaetjens in 45 seconds in the 130-pound weight class to make the score 15-5.
Madison Wellen (East Berlin, Pa.) continued her strong start to the season, getting the 14-3 tech. fall over Camryn Brown in the second period of the 136-pound weight class.
Saniyah Ward (The Colony, Texas) kept the momentum going, getting the fall over Kallah Zacherl in just 28 seconds in the 143-pound weight class to make it 15-14.
DYU was able to get the 19-15 lead in the 155-pound weight class as
Alessandra Elliott (Staten, Island, N.Y.) got the fall over No. 4 Lili Ujfalvi in the second period after being down 6-0 in the first period.
Gannon was able to secure the dual in the next two bouts, getting the tech. fall in the 170-pound weight class and the fall in the 191-pound weight class.
The Saints will be back in action next Sunday, December 10th, as they travel to John Carroll University for the John Carroll Tri-Meet where they will also take on Hiram College. Action is set to start at 12:00 p.m.
